Dear Caring Soul,
Thank you for your curiosity about Girls Love Mail. I'm thrilled you're interested in learning how you can help encourage a woman going thru breast cancer treatment with just a pen and sheet of paper. But because I'm a writer, I must first share the brief story of how this endeavor got started.
In 2009 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time I was working on an epistolary novel, or a novel comprised entirely letters. While undergoing treatment and forcing myself to work on the letters for my book, I started receiving letters and cards filled with well wishes. I received over 200 letters, many of which came from people I had never met. I was amazed that strangers had taken time to sit down and pick up a pen. My two worlds had collided. It was then I realized the importance of letters. Letters are sacred mementos and personal memoirs. They are a precious gift with the power to delight and heal. And this brings us to Girls Love Mail.
The goal of Girls Love Mail is to give the gift of a letter to a woman going thru breast cancer treatment. Anyone with a story to share or desire to encourage another woman can write a letter. You just begin with "Dear Sister" and write from the heart. Once your letter(s) is ready, send it to me and I'll forward it to a woman who needs your encouragement. It's that simple.
Below are a few helpful tips and housekeeping items to get you started. If you have any questions, or would like to share your comments, I encourage you to email me or post to my FaceBook account.
Thank you for your time and interest in Girls Love Mail. In a world of technology, we've forgotten the excitement of opening the mail box and finding a letter with our name on it. Just think how much more this kind of personal connection means to a woman going through frightening times. I know what those letters meant to me. I encourage you to give it a try and see how much it can mean to you.
      Best wishes always,
      Gina
